Feb. 23 2008

Finished my flies for the SowBug swap this AM. Tied #18 Klinkhamers on scud hooks, brown, glossy rayon thread on abdomen, brown dubbing for thorax, Cree hackle. Handsome little critters, had to make 3 or 4 extras for myself. Then started a dozen #16 Parachute Adams, haven't finished them yet, boss keeps calling me away. Tying the Adams on some vintage Edgar Seeley and Sons sproat hooks. The hooks are probably worth way more than the flies. Oh, well, maybe Edgar will be proud that his hooks are still out here working for us FF'ers.
Am planning a trip to Spring River Tuesday with a new fishing partner, Standstall from the FAOL chatroom. Hope nothing happens to cancel us out.

Showtime

Spent the weekend tying flies at the Murfreesboro, AR, FF'ing show. Had a great time, met some new friends, and got to sample some new water. I must confess that I was amazed that the trout there are no larger than they are. The aquatic life in this tailwater is remarkable. Stones, damsels, dragons, hellgramites, crayfish, several mayflies, true worms of several species, chironomids, and more. The fish appear to have plenty to eat.
Now I need to get ready for the SowBug Roundup. This is the big show of the year for me. I see lots of friends here that I only get to visit once a year, and it's one of the more enjoyable shows going. I believe this will be year #10 for the SowBug, and I've been there from the first.
